tartar control?

Hi Does anybody know if the tartar control cat treats (example Pounce Chicken Flavor)are safe or effective for ferrets? I can't imagine my fuzzy sitting still long enough to have her teeth brushed! Thanks.

As you can see I am not that good about checking the forums converstations.

Ferrets can get used to having their teeth cleaned but it definetely takes patience and persistance on your part.  There are a couple of products available to help control tartar.  One is the Oxyfresh Pet Oral Hygiene.  It comes in a solution that can be added to your ferrets water or in a gel which can be rubbed on their gums.  It can be purchased at most veterinary clinics.  Another product is the TD cat food which is specially formulated to help reduce tartar.  I use this an give it to my ferrets as a treat.  It can be purchased from most vet clinics as well.  Friskies also carries a dental diet which I've seen at Walmart and Petsmart.  I haven't used this one myself so I can't tell you how well it works.

Hey Tamara! I've given my Kenya some Guine Pig Treats, and she liked them. But I don't know about cat stuff... they are close in size, and are both carnivors, so I'd assume that it would work, but I don't know for sure. I do know that there are Ferret teeth cleaners available. Try to get you fuzzy in a position that's comfortable, and then try to clean it's teeth. reward thema nd talk in a soothing tone. I do this for Kenya when I clip her nails. Let me know what works for ya!
